![]() ![]() The outdoor seating area (2 lounges and 2 tables) did have heaters above so you could sit outside comfortably in all seasons. Granted, there was a row of tall hedges separating the outside area from the car park, but it was impossible to ignore it. The hot tub was a sad affair surrounded by concrete and one miserable plant…facing the parking lot. The outside area: this is where the spa REALLY fell flat (especially compared to what I am used to in Palm Springs). The Red Door is so small that it seems unlikely they wouldn’t be able to find me for my appointment if I was sitting outside 20 feet away! But this repeated instruction had the gravity of possibly upending the whole operation for the day if not followed closely! This I found strange as I prefer to sit outside. I was told repeatedly to be in this room 10 minutes before my treatment. The ‘relaxation room’ was small and windowless but not overly hot (as some reviewer commented), but comfortable and provided fresh fruit and water. The sarong they provided if I wanted to use it in the steam/sauna was an embarrassment. The robes were lovely as well (someone complained about them in an earlier review-they are lovely). The facilities: this is where I expect the luxury to kind of thread my services together like an indulgent ribbon for the day. I gave up and they maybe lost a sale for it. I wandered over to the shop section of the spa but had no idea of what I was looking for…and no one offered to help. But it’s nice to have if I want to purchase something. Sometimes I purchase something often I don’t. ![]() I am used to leaving with little note of what was done during the facial, the specific products used, and recommendations for purchase. I’d advise to make the request when booking if this is important to you. I was not a major deal, but perhaps for others it may have been. Red Door hadn’t asked when I made the appointment and I didn’t even realize that until my (male) therapist called my name in the waiting room. In any other spa visit they have always asked at booking whether I prefer a male or female therapist. The only surprise I had was that I had a male massage therapist. My therapist asked in advance for areas to focus on and checked in with me regularly about the pressure. ![]() I asked for a little more pressure and got it. How bad could it be, right? Not bad at all! I had seen reviews online at Trip Advisor for Red Door and I wasn’t impressed with what I read, but I booked an appointment: a 50 minute massage and a facial. For the most part Red Door delivered on my expectations, but fell short on a few. My modus operandi is to schedule 2 treatments in a day, separated by enough time for me to enjoy the sauna, steam room, hot tub, and possibly have lunch. I am used to annual spa visits for Christmas and look for: excellent service, fabulous massage and facials, excellent amenities, and lovely and relaxing surroundings. Overall I had a nice experience and I may return. While visiting family in Tucson, I booked a spa day at Red Door, so this review is for Red Door spa only and not the hotel. ![]()
